For minor health complaints during your holiday in Mauritania, a visit to a Doctor or pharmacy is likely sufficient.
If you suffer from any chronical diseases, we advise you to bring your own prescriptions and
medicines.
For Malaria, repellents and mosquito netting are the best forms of protection. For any camping trip, we shall provide you with the necessary mosquito net. We also encourage you to protect yourself from sun exposure.
In addition to wearing sunglasses and using proper sunscreen, a hat or a headscarf can be very helpful. In Mauritania, we cover ourselves with a Hawli (Mauritanian headscarf).

COVID-19 Related Measures
Travelers to Mauritania must present evidence of a negative COVID-19 PCR test, dated up to
5 days before arrival and delivered by an authorized laboratory from the country of origin.
For exiting Mauritania, you will also need to be in possession of a negative PCR, which you can be done for free at Nouakchott, at the clinic located in front of the National hospital Center. The wearing of facemask in public is recommended, but not mandatory.

Entry Requirements
Visas are issued at Nouakchott/Atar airport for a single entry and for a duration of 30 days. The visa fee is Euro 55, and it applies to both airports and land borders.
The following foreign nationals are exempted from visa:
Algeria, Ivory Coast, Gambia, Libya, Mali, Niger, Senegal, Syria and Tunisia.

Credit Cards & ATM
In Mauritania, credit cards ( Mastercards, Visa…) can be used to withdraw cash from ATMs
at many banks in Mauritania. Nevertheless, some networks issues might be encountered in
the countryside. We recommend to withdraw cash in the main cities ( Nouakchott, Atar,
Nouadhibou…etc)
Safety & Security
Mauritania is a safe country with a low crime rate. In case of emergency, you can liaise with
your embassy in Nouakchott.
At Mauritania Desert Voyages, we are very conscious about the security of our clients. Any
place that might be potentially risky is excluded from our proposed itinerary.

International code to call Mauritania from abroad: + 222. The mobile network is widespread
throughout the country, except in remote places.
We shall inform you in advance if your itinerary include a place without phone/internet
coverage.
Weather
The best time to visit Mauritania is winter, from October to April (average temperature: from
15C to 30C) . From May to September, the weather condition might be challenging:
temperature can reach up to 40C. Many auberges (especially in the Adrar Region) close
during this summer period. Nevertheless, we continue to operate tour during all the year.
